SBL Alumni Nathaniel Lowe

Updated: Jun 6

In the 2024 season, we are going to feature a weekly post about our SBL alumni who have made it to the next level. Every year we see multiple SBL athletes achieve their goal of becoming professional baseball players and we wanted to spotlight those athletes. The first athlete we wanted to highlight is Nathaniel Lowe of the Texas Rangers.

Today you can see Nathaniel Lowe patrolling first base for the Texas Rangers but before he was a Ranger he played in the SBL on the East Cobb Patriots. Lowe played for the Patriots during the 2014 season as a Sophomore at Mercer University. During that

season Lowe played in 25 games with a .370 batting average having 27 hits, 6 doubles, and 3 home runs. Lowe also showed off his pitching ability that season, appearing in 4 games with 9 strikeouts and 1 win.  In 2016 Lowe was drafted in the 13th round by the Tampa Bay Rays and in 2019 he was called up to the majors. Lowe was traded to the Texas Rangers during the 2020 offseason and first appeared for the Rangers during the 2021 season. Lowe showed some promising hitting ability during his time in the SBL and in 2022 he showed off that hitting ability in the Majors winning a Silver Slugger. Lowe won a Gold Glove in 2023 and was a pivotal part of the 2023 Texas Rangers World Series Championship.

Lowe was 18 during his time with the East Cobb Patriots and ten years later now at the age of 28 he is in his 6th Major League season. During his time in the majors, he has won a Silver Slugger, a Gold Glove, and a World Series. Lowe has become one of the best first basemen in the MLB and with the hardware to prove it. There is no record of Lowe pitching again after his four appearances with the Patriots. This is probably for the best because what I didn’t mention in his pitching stats he had an 11.25 ERA.
