Buursema, Cooper Dominate in Gol'Diggers Victory



Alpharetta, GA – Friday night the Aviators took game one of the series and Saturday night was game two of a key matchup this week.


In the second inning the Gol’Diggers got on the board in a bit way after a walk and a hit-by pitch Mason Cooper hit a 3-run homerun. The Aviators scored a run on a series of misplays in the bottom of the second inning. Burton Hahn reached on an HBP, advanced on a balk, and scored on a wild pitch.


In the third inning, the Gol’Diggers had another bit inning scoring five runs on four hits. The first run was scored on a bases-loaded walk to Matthew Lee. Mason Cooper followed Lee with a Grand Slam blast that gave the Gol’Diggers an 8-1 lead.


In the fifth inning, Gainesville added another 2 runs notably on an RBI double hit by Jacob Bohaceck. Porter Buursema started the game for Gainesville and finished his night after the fifth inning. Porter had a no-hitter through 5 innings with a very impressive 10 strikeouts on 19 batters faced.


In the seventh inning, the Gol’Diggers put the final touches on their run-rule win scoring another 4 runs. Mason Cooper added another RBI in the seventh inning bringing his total for the day to 8 RBIs. An errant throw to first with the bases loaded scored 3 runs giving the Gol’Diggers a 14-1 lead. Tyler Martin finished off the last of the Aviators bats securing the 14-1 victory for Gainesville.


Mason Cooper had a great night at the plate going 3-3 with 2 home runs, 8 RBIs, and scored a run all four times he reached base.
