Aviators Trounce the Blues

Alpharetta, GA - After beating Cartersville on Saturday, the Aviators returned home to host the struggling Blues. Blythe Keisler got the star for the Aviators. He sits down the first two batters he sees with only two pitches. This brought up Miles Bowens who hits a solo shot to right that gets the scoring started. This didn’t seem to affect Kisler at all as he gets Kam Taylor swinging. Keith Copeland Jr takes the mound first for the Blues. The Aviators come out swinging as Cowart hits a leadoff single followed by a double from Dowdell. However, the next three batters go down in order, and they come up empty handed.  Dwight Allen II hits a leadoff single but gets caught trying to nab second. Christopher Gulzado lays down a two out single and then successfully reaches second as he catches the Aviators defense sleeping. He gets brought in by a single hit by Vernon Clay to extend their lead to 2-0. On to the bottom of the second, TJ Kloiber gets leadoff walk before reaching third thanks to some smart baserunning. He then gets the first run on the board as he reaches home safely on a passed ball to cut the lead to 1 going into the third.

Trey Butler gets a leadoff single, but that’s all the Blues manage to do. Kyle Chatham hit a leadoff single of his own that is followed by two walks to load the bases. He is brought in by a sac fly hit by Guilford to tie the game, but they are unable to further capitalize on the opportunity. Allen draws a walk that’s followed by a Green single. This puts runners on first in second with one out, but the next two batters are sat down as they’re unable to retake the lead. Will Mahoney hit a two out single in the bottom of the fourth. This is followed by two walks, a double by Cowart, and finally Dowdell wears one. After the dust settles the Aviators plate 4 to go up 6-2. Heading to the fifth, Clay and Jackson hit back-to-back singles, but the Blues are still unable to bring a runner in. Guilford and Armstong start the bottom of the fifth by drawing two walks. They then stole third and second to put themselves in scoring position with one out. A sac fly from Roberson and a passed ball brought them both in as they extended their lead to 8-2. The Blues are still unable to answer back as a walk from Allen is all they do in the sixth. The Aviators don’t get anything either as they go down in order.

DJ Butler takes over a SS and he wears a pitch to get on base. He then steals second and third to put himself in prime scoring position with two outs. Unfortunately, Butler grounds out as the Blues offensive woes continue. The Aviators finally start to cool down as a Jackson Morgan single is all they get in the seventh. The Eighth inning blazes by as both teams go three up three down. With their final three outs the Blues look to do the impossible and make a six-run comeback. They ended up not putting up a fight as two fly outs and a three pitch strike out brought the game to an end.

The Aviators won 8-2 as they improved to 4-1 while the Blues fell to 1-4. Blythe Keisler got the win and Keith Copeland Jr got the loss. They will face each other again for the second game of the series back in Alpharetta on Wednesday.
